Sir Jackie Stewart is present in Abu Dhabi at the final race of the 2022 season. He spoke to GPblog about his overall impression of this season and about the second world championship for Max Verstappen.

Asked about how he experienced this season, the Brit said: "It's been a good year. It's been a safe year. The right man won, the right team won. I think it was an excellent season."

The Brit also compares both of Verstappen's championships. For instance, Stewart thinks the first championship for Verstappen has the advantage at least at the moment, but the Mercedes became very strong again towards the end of the season. "I think it just demonstrates that they [Mercedes] know how to do it. But they had already had, what I would suggest, was too long at the top for the sport. Wonderful for them and they should get every credit for it."

More exciting

Stewart calls it great for them and they should get all the credit for it but is also pleased with the new strong form of the Milton Keynes team. "But Red Bull: I think it makes it a little bit more exciting, I think, for the general public and they've done a great job."

The three-time world champion was also asked about his predictions for the race at the Yas Marina Circuit. "I think Verstappen is going to be the man. Obviously, his teammate is very competitive at the moment and I think rather than Ferrari, it'll be Mercedes Benz. They have a good possibility, I think."
