Sainz wants fight with Verstappen: 'We are going to try'

Carlos Sainz hopes he can do in 2023 what he failed to do this season: compete with Max Verstappen for the world title. The Spaniard gained a lot of confidence after the summer break and is targeting a strong start to the season after the winter.

At the start of the season, Ferrari seemed to have a car with which they could compete at the top of the world championship. Whereas Charles Leclerc was fighting for wins, Sainz did not manage to be competitive in the early stages. Over the course of the season, Sainz managed to recover.

Sainz wants to go for the world title

With Leclerc and Sainz, the Italian formation hopes to have two drivers in the next calendar year who can compete for prizes. The Spanish driver himself is convinced he can do so, but he needs to get off to a good start.

"Next year we will have a new car again, where we will try to improve the weaknesses of the car and me," Sainz said in an interview with Mundo Deportivo. "We are going to try to compete at the front from the start."

"Above all, I want to have a first half of the season where I can stay in the fight. I already know that my second half of the year is usually strong, so it's a good sign what we see at the end of this year. Hopefully next year I can continue on this basis or even better."
