'Piastri spotted in France while conducting test for McLaren'

Oscar Piastri reportedly conducted a test for McLaren last Wednesday and Thursday. According to Autohebdo the Australian, who will race for the British formation next season, was spotted at the Paul Ricard circuit in Le Castellet.

It is notable that the driver may have stepped in for McLaren last week. Indeed, Alpine's reserve driver seemed to still be under contract with the French formation. According to the medium, it therefore seems that the relationship between the two parties has deteriorated to such an extent that Alpine has had his contract terminated.

Indeed, Piastri not only drove around in a McLaren car, but also wore a suit of the team on which several sponsors could be found. On both days, he thus tested extensively for the team, which is already working towards next season.

Disagreement between Piastri and Alpine

After Fernando Alonso announced a few months ago that he would leave for Aston Martin in 2023, Alpine thought it had an excellent replacement in Piastri. However, behind the scenes it turned out that the driver was already in advanced talks with McLaren.

Alpine thought it was right in the contractual situation and decided to challenge Piastri's decision. However, the Contract Recognition Board stated that Piastri was free after the season and that he could therefore move to McLaren without any problems.
