Max Verstappen may start Sunday's Mexican Formula 1 race from first position. Things were not easy for the Dutchman in qualifying, however, as he faced a lot of opposition from Mercedes. This was also seen by Peter Windsor, who was impressed by Verstappen.

According to Windsor, Verstappen made the biggest difference in the first two sectors. "That's where he earned his money as a double world champion because that red bull was a little bit on the edge compared to the Mercedes. A little bit reverse to what we saw in Austin," he says on his YouTube channel.

Verstappen was ultimately over three-tenths faster than the competition. "A really good lap in a car that isn't where it normally is. But nonetheless three tenths quicker than Mercedes. Because in this really good Mercedes car, Russell who looked to be potentially able to get the pole, ran wide going into the stadium section on the last lap."

Verstappen has competition at the start

For Verstappen, however, holding on to his pole position will not be easy. After all, during the start, he has George Russell, Lewis Hamilton as well as Sergio Perez driving behind him. In contrast, Ferrari was was disappointed in qualifying with Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz.
