Qualifying duels Mexico GP | Verstappen beats Perez, Russell catches up
- GPblog.com
Max Verstappen convincingly secured pole position in qualifying for the Mexican Grand Prix, moving further away from Sergio Perez in the mutual qualifying duel. Carlos Sainz and George Russell, on the other hand, managed to move back slightly.
Russell set the second fastest time in Mexico and therefore starts Sunday's race ahead of Lewis Hamilton. He narrows the gap with his teammate a little, but with a difference of four, there is no chance for Russell to beat Hamilton.
Sainz managed to finish ahead of Charles Leclerc with fifth, but he too is looking at too big a gap. Lando Norris and Fernando Alonso then managed to live up to expectations and increased their lead over their teammate.
The same goes for Sebastian Vettel, Valtteri Bottas, Kevin Magnussen and Alexander Albon. Only Yuki Tsunoda managed to catch up. The Japanese driver managed to secure 13th on the grid , making him faster than Pierre Gasly.
