Alonso about Hamilton: 'Championship less value than Verstappen'

Lewis Hamilton, with seven world championships won, is on a par with Michael Schumacher, holding the record for the duo. However, according to Fernando Alonso, Max Verstappen's current performance is crisper than the Briton's in the past, he told De Telegraaf.
"I also have a lot of respect for Lewis. Still, it's different when you win seven world titles when you've only had to fight with your teammate," the Spaniard explained. "Then I think a championship has less value than when you have fewer titles but have had to fight against other drivers with equivalent or even better material."

While Verstappen managed to take the world title as early as this year's Japan Grand Prix, last season was different. The Dutch driver battled Hamilton for the world title throughout the race year, in which things were fierce.
In the end, the Red Bull Racing driver managed to take victory in Abu Dhabi. Alonso felt that was more than justified. "I thought he performed better than Lewis in the end and therefore think he is a worthy champion," said Alonso, who will race for Aston Martin next season as Sebastian Vettel's replacement.
