McLaren driver Daniel Ricciardo looks back on the United States Grand Prix dissatisfied. The Australian crossed the finish line in 16th place with only Nicholas Latifi behind him. Teammate Lando Norris, on the other hand, managed to pick up good points with his sixth place.

Ricciardo has a hard time reacting after the race:"I have no idea what to say," the driver begins opposite Motorsport Week. He says he has this feeling throughout the 2022 season and where he thinks things can't get any worse, they have. "I don’t know how I’m continuing to continue because [to say] it’s painful is an understatement", he says disappointedly.

No confidence in car

Like last year, Ricciardo is not coming off well at McLaren. Austin looked like a new low, as he was stuck in last position for a long time after the second round of pitstops. He did catch up with Latifi and was then able to pass the Canadian towards the end, but that did not help matters. Ricciardo says it has been like this all year and he is just so far off the pace. "I simply can’t lean on [the car], I can’t push, can’t get the time out of it," the McLaren driver says gloomily.

Ricciardo explains that he himself cannot actually explain exactly why he cannot get the performance out of the car, while Norris can get the best out of it. "The inconsistency through the lap times, it shows that it really is a struggle, but to have such a really big margin again, it remains a mystery", he explains. He concludes that he loves Texas and Austin, but this race was not fun for him.
