Red Bull Racing is irritated with the FIA. The governing body, according to Red Bull, is said to have thrown the team in front of the bus with the budget cap mess, reports De Telegraaf.

After the Singapore Grand Prix, the FIA announced that Red Bull Racing had allegedly exceeded the budget cap, but since then little has been heard from F1's governing body. While competitors are all coming out and demanding high penalties from the FIA, Red Bull is under a magnifying glass without being able to do anything itself.

Red Bull under fire

Everyone wants to know something from Christian Horner, but the ongoing case prevents him from saying anything about it. Red Bull would have gone two million over the budget cap according to the FIA, but Red Bull submitted a budget where it was four million under the budget cap. The Austrian racing stable therefore believes the difference rests on a difference of interpretation.

The two million would fall under a 'minor' offence, but different penalties are also possible for this. The competition is screaming for the highest penalty, but the FIA has yet to hear anything. The communication towards Red Bull is not great either, according to the team, they feel thrown in front of the bus by the statement.

At Red Bull, according to De Telegraaf, they deny that Adrian Newey's salary would be a problem. In fact, Red Bull's top designer is among the three highest-paid staff and thus does not fall under the budget cap. There are also doubts at Red Bull about Shaila-Ann Rao's role as interim secretary-general at the FIA. She came over from Mercedes as legal adviser and right-hand man to Toto Wolff.
