Red Bull asked junior driver Pierre Gasly for his feedback on the Honda engine to help the side make their decision.

Pierre Gasly has revealed that Red Bull asked for the young driver's thoughts on the engine before they made their decision to switch engine suppliers.

Red Bull announced earlier this week that they would be ending their 11-year partnership with Renault to switch to Honda.

"I didn't push for it because I am not the one who takes the decision but of course they asked me for feedback since the beginning of the year about the engine," Gasly revealed.

"I've tried to give them as precise as possible to help them in their decisions but I think it was much bigger talks behind it."

The Japanese outfit had a disastrous three years with McLaren, but have shown signs of improving with Toro Rosso, Red Bull's 'sister' team.

Honda gave Toro Rosso an upgraded-spec power unit in Canada and Gasly believes that has improved the car's performance.

"It's a really good step," Gasly said.

"I think in terms of performance, it's clearly a good help as we saw in Canada we were able to overtake other cars; Force India, Haas. I think it's looking pretty good.

"I think it's super tight in the midfield. At the moment, we still need to progress but I think we are improving in terms of consistency.

"I think clearly with the upgraded engine we have better chances to score points."
