Lewis Hamilton has said that this weekend’s French GP could be another ‘boring’ race for the sport.

Circuit Paul Ricard hasn’t been raced on since 1990 and the four-time world champion thinks this could have an impact on the quality of the circuit.

Recent races in Canada and Monaco has split opinion on the quality of racing in grands prix this year.

DRS zones have been added to more tracks this year to try and encourage overtaking to ensure the sport is as entertaining as possible for the drivers and the viewers.

Hamilton’s rival Sebastian Vettel has said that criticism of the sport is “short-sighted”.

When asked whether the race this weekend would be exciting, Hamilton was unsure.

“I really don’t know what it’s going to provide,” the Mercedes driver said following the Canadian GP.

“Is it going to be a boring race like (Montreal) or an exciting one?

“Is it going to be one like Baku? I really couldn’t tell you, absolutely no idea.

“I hope for France it’s a great one, I really do. I’ve not watched these races so I don’t know what you guys feel.”

Hamilton said he heard negative reviews of the Canadian Grand Prix from his friends.

“I heard (in Canada) there were less overtakes than there was in Monaco, something like that.

“A couple of my friends said the most exciting part of the race was a crash at the beginning.

“If that is really what Formula 1 is about, that’s sad to hear, because there’s so much more to it.”
