According to Mark Webber, the amount of money that Oscar Piastri owes to Alpine is not based on anything. According to the Australian driver's manager, Alpine only paid for a small part of his training.

The mud-slinging between Alpine and Piastri has been going on for weeks. Now that the Contract Recognition Board has decided that Piastri can race for McLaren, Alpine has let the matter rest, where before they indicated that Piastri had to pay back all the invested money. It would have been millions.

Alpine's investment wasn't too bad

According to the former F1 driver and manager of Piastri, these amounts are not correct. Webber told Channel 4 that less than 20 per cent of Piastri's junior career was sponsored by Alpine. ''The numbers have been really ballooned out of proportion. The junior categories, Oscar got some good prize money for winning those championships as well, outside of Alpine’s investment.''

Eighty per cent of Piastri's education is said to have been funded by other sponsors or Oscar's family. Now that everything is clear, Piastri will also sit down again with Alpine to flesh out the rest of the 2022 F1 season. The question is whether the French stable will offer test kilometres to Piastri after the whole soap opera.
