Friday in Zandvoort stands in stark contrast to the Grand Prix weekend in Belgium, where Max Verstappen was the dominant factor. After a false start due to largely missing FP1, Red Bull Racing could not leave a deep impression in FP2 either.

Problems with his gearbox meant Verstappen had to sit out most of the first free practice session, starting the second with a deficit. With a gap of almost seven-tenths to Charles Leclerc, it soon became clear that Red Bull still has work to do.

Verstappen not satisfied

During FP1, Verstappen was only able to test on the hard tyre, so he missed out on important kilometres on the soft tyre. "I think on that hard tyre you couldn't really tell the balance because we had such little grip on the tyre, so you're one session behind," Verstappen told various media including GPblog.

Red Bull, therefore, did not start FP2 with a great feeling. "In an hour session you can't really change the car a lot, so we just tried to deal with what we had, and that wasn't great today, but we'll have the night to look into things and for sure we can do better than this," concluded the championship leader.
