Nico Hulkenberg has warned himself and his team of Toro Rosso and McLaren's pace in Monaco, saying that the French team has to keep an eye on those teams in qualifying and in the race.

Pierre Gasly and Brendon Hartley are eyeing to have both of their cars in Q3, which would mean that there would be little space for other teams to get there as well. Renault were quicker on Thursday than Red Bull's development team, but that doesn't mean it will stay that way, Hulkenberg argues.

"We have a pretty good base to work with as our lap times were fine," he told Speedweek.com.

"We found some more grip on the hypersofts en we noticed that we could get them in the right temperature window pretty well.

"But we also saw that Toro Rosso did well and that McLaren have a good car for this circuit, so we'll have to keep an eye out for those guys."

Just like many others including his teammate Carlos Sainz, Hulkenberg did notice that the hyper softs wore down really quickly. The struggle with tyre wear depends on which team you're asking though, as Red Bull seemed to be doing just fine but Mercedes have been struggling to drive longer stints on them.
