Red Bull Racing, which actually operates under the official name Oracle Red Bull, won the 2021 Abu Dhabi GP and with it Max Verstappen's championship that year on strategy. That strategy was precisely calculated. Oracle is the company that helps the team to make the strategy more reliable.

Red Bull's strategy made the crucial difference against Mercedes in 2021. Verstappen won the race and the championship because of a crazy situation in the last five laps, which his team handled perfectly. The use of improved, cheaper and faster computer simulations with the help of US software company Oracle helped determine this perfect strategy.

Cooperation between Oracle and Red Bull

Red Bull chief strategist Will Courtenay says the strategy department simulates each race more than a billion times for both cars. To De Telegraaf Courtenay says that if it were up to him, the number of simulations would increase: "The more simulations you do, the more reliable the result becomes. Since we started working with Oracle a year and a half ago, we have been running 20 per cent more simulations than before." The cloud provided to the team by Oracle is a faster and cheaper way to simulate than the systems Red Bull relied on for collaboration.

Courtenay has a clear vision and wants to take an important next step, which will also give Max Verstappen's team much more insight into the data and the strategy of the other teams. Red Bull also wants to simulate the races of the other teams. To achieve this, Oracle has to work hard. Courtenay: "That means that instead of two cars, we have to follow twenty. That's ten times what we're doing now."It might be advisable for the team to start with the double and simulate the races of Ferrari rivals Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz.
