Despite limiting the damage well from a P20 start, Charles Leclerc described his Canadian Grand Prix as "very frustrating". The man from Monaco recovered from P20 to P5 to pick up a decent amount of points all things considered.

Following recent reliability problems, Ferrari opted to introduce Leclerc's fourth engine of the year and therefore a penalty sent him to the back of the grid. Perhaps crucially in the World Championship battle with Max Verstappen, Leclerc will highly likely need to take at least one more engine penalty with well over half the season still remaining.

Frustrating

Leclerc drove through the field well but did get stuck behind Frenchman Esteban Ocon. He describes this battle as frustrating. "Very frustrating actually. The last part was nice, but the very first part I was stuck in a DRS train and I could not do anything. Then in the middle part of the race I found myself stuck behind Esteban on much newer tyres," Leclerc explained to Sky Sports.

"Then we made the pitstop thinking that we had cleared the traffic behind but we had a slow pitstop and we fell back into another DRS train. So, we had to redo the job again. The end was quite fun. I had to be a bit more aggressive to get points. We finished fifth which is the best position considering everything that happened today."

For much of the season, Verstappen and Leclerc have been going at it in races. But this time it was Sainz who was left to attack the Dutchman. He feels confident he would've been close as well had he not needed to take an engine penalty.

"It felt like Carlos was strong today, so this shows that it would have been close as it was with Carlos today," he concluded.
