Max Verstappen took the victory at the Canadian Grand Prix and thus continues to advance in the world championship. Although the Dutchman knows all too well that the season is still long, the current situation makes him very satisfied.

Verstappen experienced a challenging race in which he had to work hard to keep Carlos Sainz behind him. "In general, we didn't really have the speed. Ferrari was very competitive in the race. If there had been no safety car, it would have been very difficult for me to close that gap," he states.

At the end of the race Sainz drove very close to Verstappen several times, but the reigning world champion managed to keep the Ferrari driver behind him. With the retirement of Sergio Perez and the fifth place for Charles Leclerc, he thus increases his lead in the world championship to 46 points on the Mexican and 49 points on the Monegasque.

Verstappen not yet blowing his own trumpet

"It's still a long season. Many things can still happen and go wrong. We have to avoid that of course, but it is positive," said Verstappen. In two weeks the next GP is scheduled to be held at Silverstone.
