Vettel: 'If we don't come, we can't make the difference'

More and more Sebastian Vettel is casting himself as a fighter for inequality. Like Lewis Hamilton, the German regularly speaks out on social issues. The rights of the LGBTQ community under discussion in Hungary was one such issue against which Vettel took a stand against.

In Attitude Vettel once again demonstrates his social commitment. For example, the four-time world champion is irritated by countries where the rights of the LGBTQ community are violated. These are sometimes also countries where Formula 1 comes to race and is a showcase for a not always nice regime.

According to Vettel, no country is perfect, not his own Germany or the United Kingdom. But when it comes to rights for LGBTQ, some countries have big problems. "We could refuse to race in those countries — but what then?" Vettel wonders. "If we were not to race there, we’d be powerless to make any positive difference at all."

Positive impact

Vettel is an optimistic man. He thinks Formula 1 can contribute to making the world a better place. "But by racing in those countries and politely, but firmly, standing up for the values and principles that are important to us, I think we can have a positive impact. Values and principles can’t stop at borders", Vettel concluded.
