Schumacher: 'Then the power of DRS is not needed at all to overtake'

Mick Schumacher looks ahead to the upcoming Grand Prix in Azerbaijan. The German thinks that there will be a lot of overtaking because the new cars can drive closer to each other.

Overtaking without the power of DRS

Schumacher will want to pull out all the stops to get a good result in Baku after a tough crash in Monaco. Team boss Guenther Steiner said on Monday that the Haas drivers must not cause any lumps on the streets of the Azerbaijani capital.

"I would imagine to see more action and overtaking. We know that DRS this year isn’t as powerful as it used to be, but I’m sure with the cars being able to follow closer, we’ll be able to arrive or stay closer to the car ahead in the last part of the racetrack and then maybe we won’t need that high DRS power anymore to get by into T1," said the German in a press release from his team.

Looking forward to the next race

Despite the jumps he made last race in Monaco, Schumacher junior says he is excited to be racing on a street circuit again. He expects that the car is going to be well tuned in Baku, as it has been all year at the other circuits.

Schumacher is currently still one of the second regular drivers to go pointless in 2022. The pressure is getting a little bit more intense though, as teammate Kevin Magnussen has already shown several times that the 2022 Haas F1 is good enough to score points with.
