At Alpine, they are not in favor of raising the budget ceiling. The Viry-based racing team is one of the three teams that sees little point in it and during the press conference team boss Otmar Szafnauer explained Alpine's motives. Red Bull Racing, Mercedes and Ferrari have little to expect from the French. Alfa Romeo also sees little reason to make changes to the financial regulations.

According to the three "traditional" top teams in Formula 1, the threats include mass redundancies and the inability to participate in Grands Prix due to a lack of spare parts. Alpine doesn't really care about that, as is becoming clear once again in Monaco.

"You already budget the season in November, and then we already had seven percent inflation, we took that into account," Szafnauer told Motorsport-Magazin.com just before the third free practice session. "Even if the freight is still a bit more expensive than expected: where there is a will, there is a way. The budget ceiling is there, and it has to stay there."

Alfa Romeo insists on making choices

In the premier class of motor racing, budgets are very precise and financial setbacks such as high inflation are not included to such an extent. Red Bull, Ferrari and Mercedes invoke force majeure, but Szafnauer is supported by Frederic Vasseur."Inflation is not force majeure. The teams have to decide: do they develop for a whole year and miss four races, or do they stop developing and drive all the races?"
