Max Verstappen hopes to move another step closer to Charles Leclerc in the world championship at the Spanish Grand Prix. The Monegasque was still a street length ahead a few races ago, but after the GPs in Imola and Miami the momentum is with Verstappen. The latter driver knows better than anyone what his rival is going through, he told Formula1.com.

At the end of 2021 Verstappen was also far ahead of Hamilton and experienced a similar situation. The Briton managed to win several races in a row and equalise the score before the final race in Abu Dhabi.

"At the end of last year, of course, I was the one who was being hunted," Verstappen remembers well. "That was actually not a great position because I knew that we didn't have the pace anymore. I knew it was going to be very tricky to the end."

Verstappen has faith in Red Bull

According to the reigning world champion, his current position feels a lot better. The Red Bull Racing driver feels he has a car at his disposal with which he can compete and is confident in his own abilities. Both teams will have updates in Spain, which makes it difficult to predict which stable is the favorite.
