Red Bull on the attack with updates in Imola: 'We are not accountants'

Helmut Marko states that Red Bull Racing will do everything it can to overtake Ferrari. The team will go all-in during the upcoming races to close the gap. With that, the Austrian goes against what Christian Horner claimed earlier.

Red Bull Racing has made a shaky start to the 2022 Formula One season. On the one hand, the performance of the RB18 is hopeful. The car of Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez is fast, but still falls a bit short, especially in the slow sectors, compared to Ferrari. However, this is not very surprising because of the 2021 title fight as Ferrari had a head start in development.

Problems with the RB18

Red Bull's biggest problem is not the speed of the car, but more the reliability. Verstappen retired in Australia for the second time this season after both he and Perez DNF'd in Bahrain. Valuable points were lost for Red Bull, as a result the Austrian formation is already facing a considerable gap.

Marko reported earlier that Honda has assured that the problem will not occur again. It is said to be a fuel line that broke under the high pressure and Red Bull's advisor explained to ORF that porpoising is a major problem in this regard. The RB18 suffers less from bouncing than the competition, but the collisions with the asphalt cause problems with the fuel supply.

With that problem out of the way, it's up to Red Bull to take the next step in development, but Horner previously stated that no major updates will be coming with them to Imola. Indeed, due to the sprint weekend, there is only one free practice session to test the update, so the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix does not seem the ideal weekend to come up with updates.

Marko is of a different opinion. ''We have decided that we will go on full attack and take risks. Even if it only works halfway, we will use an update. We are not accountants. It will be difficult, but we will take that risk,'' Marko said.
