Due to the cancellation of the Grand Prix in Russia, the F1 calendar counts 22 instead of 23 races. Whether and if so which Grand Prix may fill this gap has been a topic of discussion for weeks.

Busy schedule

Will it be Portugal? Maybe Turkey? Maybe Germany. Even two races in Singapore have been suggested. For now, it is still unclear which direction the Formula 1 organization will take. If there will be a replacement race because that too is far from certain. Especially considering the already busy schedule that the teams will have to face this season.

Gunther Steiner, as team boss, is never too shy to give his opinion. He understands why no choice has been made yet. After all, for a new race somewhere in the world, it has to be possible to get all the equipment there on time. Moreover, according to him, it should not be an enormous cost for F1.

Enough money

"We have to be sure that the fee the circuit has to pay is sufficient, so as not to lose money if we go for an extra race. 22 races is a nice number. But if you can get to 23 with a fair contribution, that's fine with us," Steiner said in a conversation with FormulaPassion.
