With the modest Trident team, Bent Viscaal managed to surprise on several occasions in Formula 2 last season. In Italy and Saudi Arabia, the driver from Albergen finished in second place. Yet this did not lead (for the time being) to a longer stay in the class just below Formula 1.

Upcoming weeks

For Viscaal, renewal of the Trident contract seemed a pipe dream, because the Italian racing stable wanted two financially wealthy drivers to step in. For a moment there was hope: the Japanese Teppei Natori was unable to complete an F2 program and Trident immediately looked at Viscaal. However, he was not able to provide as much sponsor money as Richard Verschoor, who, thanks to a new crypto sponsor among others, beat his compatriot to the last F2 seat.

This meant that he had to seek refuge in another series. What exactly it will be, is still unknown. But Viscaal is not worried about a bright racing future. "I expect more news in the coming weeks," he tells GPblog. It is not obvious that Viscaal will return to Formula 3 and in F2 all spots are thus taken. A season outside the Formula classes therefore seems the most logical. The only 22-year-old Viscaal can go in many directions. In an earlier interview with GPblog he already let us know that he thinks long distance racing is also a possibility to continue his career.

Good options

"LPMP2 or GTE or something like that could be a good option, of course," says Viscaal. "No, I've never driven cars like that. I have talked to people who have also made that switch. They say it does feel natural. I'm not afraid of that."
