Horner remains cautious: 'Time will tell if we did it right'

Christian Horner spoke at Sky Sports during the first winter test day in Barcelona about the new structure at the FIA, the new RB18, and the remarkably large sponsorship deals. The Red Bull Racing team boss reveals that plenty is still possible outside the budget cap. 

Good day for Red Bull

For Red Bull Racing, the first day of testing in Barcelona was a success. The Austrian formation got enough data from Verstappen's 147 laps to collect on the new RB18. In addition, the new car was also in the spotlight, with Red Bull's car making the biggest impression on the circuit out of all the teams.

''I think the team have done a wonderful job, obviously balancing the pressures of last year and developing the current car. We don't know how quick it is, but the initial feedback is positive. It looks different to our competitors but only time will tell if we've got it right. Max was happy with the balance this morning. It's a get to know it process, before they get to work on performance'', says the Brit. 

New path of the FIA

In addition to the test day itself, Horner was also asked about the new sponsors. Red Bull secured millions for the coming seasons with Oracle and Bybit. According to Horner, there are still areas where they are allowed to spend money without it falling under the budget cap. In addition, according to him, it's not just about the money, but also about sharing technology and improving the fan experience. 

Horner also spoke briefly about the changes within the FIA. ''I think Mohammed (Ben Sulayem), the new president, wants to put his own stamp on it. He has inherited a structure and has been chosen to change that structure. For Michael (Masi), it's tough. It's great that they've brought in the experience of Herbie Blash and a technological support for the race leader, but it's tough for Michael,'' Horner concludes.
