Andretti announced last week that they would like to join Formula 1. It quickly became clear that there are many hurdles to overcome in order to do so. Christian Horner is not unsympathetic to the arrival of the American formation, but he emphasises that it is not a one-two punch.

Since the takeover by Liberty Media, Formula 1 has become a lot more popular. More and more rumors seep through lately about teams that have the ambition to join the premier class of motor sports. Horner calls this a good development.

Team boss Red Bull about Andretti

The Red Bull Racing team boss called the growing interest "amazing" during a press event, including The Race. The fact that a big name like Andretti is also showing interest is only good for Horner, but he warns that it will certainly not be easy to actually complete the entire registration procedure successfully.

"There is a clear criteria through the Concorde Agreement that has to be met and approved. I’m sure they are engaged in that process. That agreement is there to protect the 10 incumbents and not to dilute that. So that would need to be carefully looked at", Horner said. In any case, there will be no preferential treatment.

What does the FIA think?

Despite the fact that additional teams in Formula 1 always seems to be a positive thing, it now appears that the FIA is not enthusiastic about the arrival of Andretti at the highest level. Whether the FIA will actually put its foot down if it really comes to that is unclear.
