After announcing that Van Amersfoort Racing (VAR) will re-enter Formula 3 next season, the Dutch race team has now announced that it will also compete in Formula 2 next season.

Van Amersfoort Racing and F2 perfect match

VAR has been active in motorsport for more than 45 years, giving drivers like Max Verstappen, Charles Leclerc, Anthoine Hubert and Mick Schumacher a push towards Formula 1. The team was mainly active in Formula 3 and Formula 4, but as from next year the team will also enter Formula 2. On the website CEO Rob Niessink says he is very pleased with the expansion of the team to Formula 2.

Niessink speaks of a perfect match. "The high level of professionalism shown in this category suits us perfectly. It fits with the way we work in all the series we race in." VAR will be in action straight away this week in Formula 2 during the post-season test in Abu Dhabi, 16, 17 and 18 December. The team will be managed by Peter van Erp, previously active in Formula 1, Formula 4 and the FIA GT Series, among others.

Van Amersfoort Racing paves the way to F1

Founder Frits van Amersfoort can't believe his luck with the team's re-entry into Formula 3 and entry into Formula 2. "It still amazes me how big we have grown since I founded this race team more than 45 years ago." The team can now pave the way for young drivers from Formula 4 to Formula 1. "This fits perfectly with our philosophy of supporting young talented drivers on their way to the next level in motorsport."

Van Amersfoort is also aware that it is going to be quite a challenge next season, no matter how enthusiastic he is. Especially in Formula 2, the team will face a high level of competition. "We will not take this challenge lightly," he sounds combative. Which drivers will drive for VAR in Formula 2 next season has not yet been announced.
