Perez puts team interest first: 'It's not about Max and me'

Sergio Perez has put the moment with Max Verstappen in Brazil behind him. Indeed, according to Perez, Red Bull Racing is not just about the drivers.

In 2022, the relationship between Verstappen and Perez seemed to be dented at the Brazilian Grand Prix. There, Verstappen was asked to let ahead of his teammate, but the Dutchman had his own reasons for not doing so. Perez was furious. Peace was signed one race weekend later and, according to Perez, the battle is now behind him.

Peace signed with Verstappen

''It is important that we work and think as a team. As a team we have to maximise. It's not just about Max and me. It's about the team. There are so many people in the factory who give everything for us. I'm working very hard on my side with my engineers to make sure that we are able to, to go on to the next step,'' Perez told GPblog and others.

The moment is behind the Mexican and so, as said, the gaze can turn to 2023. Red Bull Racing is the top favourite for next season after winning two world titles in 2022, but Perez also sees the competition closing in.

''Mercedes was very competitive at the end of the season, as was Ferrari. I expect them to be there again,'' said the 33-year-old driver. Checo also expects the rest of the field to get closer. ''There are some midfield team that are making big steps over the winter. We'll see once we are in Bahrain," concluded the Mexican.
