About the Bahrain Grand Prix

The 2024 Formula 1 season begins with the Bahrain Grand Prix. The Bahrain International Circuit is located about 30 kilometres outside the capital Manama. During the race weekend, the Sakhir desert not only pushes engines to the limit, but drivers also have to keep their heads cool while it is hot as hell and dark! In 2024, the only F1 pre-season test will also take place at the same venue.

The 2024 Bahrain Grand Prix

The 2024 Bahrain Grand Prix is the first round of the Formula 1 World Championship and will paint an early picture of how things stand performance-wise after the long winter break. Bahrain is characterised by four long stretches of straight asphalt where the most powerful engines will come to the forefront.

In 2004, the Formula One drivers raced at the circuit for the first time, then as the third GP on the Formula One calendar after the Chinese Grand Prix. At the time, it was the first Formula One race in the Middle East. The race was run in daylight, but since the 2014 race, they have been waiting for the sun to set before racing.

Hermann Tilke, the world-famous circuit designer, did another interesting job. The Bahrain track was one of the first in a long series of new F1 circuits.

What will the Bahrain Grand Prix race weekend look like?

The race in Bahrain will be held in early March. The race will be run under the artificial lights hanging over the track, and the winners will celebrate late into the night. It is tipped as one of the best 'would be' venues for a sprint race, but its position as number one on the calendar ends those hopes. Due to Ramadan, the Bahrain Grand Prix weekend has shifted slightly in 2024. The practice sessions will occur on Thursday, 29th February, at 11:30 and then 15:00 UK time. Qualifying takes place on Friday, 1st March, at 16:00, with the race on Saturday, 2nd March, at 15:00.

What time does the Bahrain Grand Prix start?

As in previous years, the Bahrain GP can be followed live on GPblog from half an hour before the start. The start time is 15:00 UK time, and the race can also be followed live on your local TV service. In the United Kingdom, this is Sky Sports.
