After a chaotic initial phase due to rain at the start in Zandvoort, the rain again played a leading role in the closing stages of the Dutch Grand Prix. With 16 laps to go, rain poured down and Sergio Perez, among others, ran off the track but Zhou Guanyu collided with the barrier at Turn 1, damaging the protection at the side of the track. While several Formula 1 teams opted for full wets instead of intermediates, race control decided to stop the race via a red flag.
