Probably not. Because the race would then have been won (as expected under normal circumstances) by the guy who dominated the race and was 12 seconds in front with 5 laps to go. Unfortunately, through Masi's actions, we're left with a completely fabricated result. So out he goes. But no worries, his name will live on, as Masi Verstappen tries to win his first real WDC this season.

Ah, 'race leaders' stops after P2? Maybe you can take Masi's place once he's out. Your understanding of the rules is as good as his'.

Can't blame them for not showing up. FIA needs to feel again and again they did a horrible job, so that they might improve. Mercedes not showing up has nothing to do with MV or RBR, it has to do with the FIA. RBR won't make the FIA change (with MV already saying that Masi is such a nice guy), other teams won't do it either, so that leaves the job to Mercedes. But I doubt they FIA will change anything. In their statement they only said they want to look into how they were misunderstood. So that means they still believe they were right.

Pure speculation. Sainz could've finally had some luck (luck and the tabulation of who was lucky where seems to be a really important part of F1). The point is that every driver should in principle have an equal chance. What happens from there is up to the drivers and their car.

"Of course it's part of the game to lose a race, but it's something else when you lose confidence in racing." That sums it up perfectly. Luck is indeed a part of winning, but what happened on Sunday was beyond luck. Masi's Frankenstein interpretation of the rules created a situation where strategy, skill and race position didn't mean anything anymore. Masi's intentions were good (have a few final laps of intense racing), but he achieved it in a way that makes the rules look random. Or 'misunderstood' as the FIA has now euphemistically admitted. This was not due to malice, but due to incompetence. I'm glad Mercedes have made a lot of noise about it, make the FIA feel that they need to step up their game. I'm surprised that Ferrari haven't protested, Sainz was denied any possibility to go for P1 or P2. And I hope that RBR will eventually also make clear that, even though they benefited from this mess, this is not how F1 should be handled by the FIA.
