So, Eddie Irvine is telling us how he would say what he wanted to other drivers to gain an advantage and that he was only out for himself and his team... Yes, and that perfectly illustrates the difference in philosophies and attitudes from 20 yrs ago and earlier. A friend who doesn't follow the sport remarked "Aren't those guys pretty arrogant?" I quickly corrected her and stated how much I thought the guys these days seem alot more friendly and open with each other. I don't remember guys commiserating with and consoling each other after a tough day or congratulating drivers who were former teammates who won or just had a descent race. Guys staying around after dropping out themselves was unheard of during the cold wars and the freezing out days of yesteryear. Giving props to test drivers who go above and beyond?! And staying and helping the team break the cars and equip down allowing them get home a few minutes earlier?! Blasphemy! These poor boys are missing out on all of the cloak and dagger moments of the hallowed, proper driver mentality!
