After a disappointing qualifying session Max Verstappen had to start the Mexican Grand Prix from the third spot on the grid. At the start, however, the Dutchman immediately made up for that by outsmarting both Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas before the first turn.

Verstappen and Hamilton in one shot

At Sky Sports, Damon Hill and Jenson Button analyse the race of Verstappen. The two former world champions quickly agree. This was a very dominant win by the leader in the world championship. "It's the first time in many races we've seen Max or any car walk away with it. There's always been a moment where Max and Lewis were in the same shot," Button explained. "Today, Max did his own race."

The Mercedes driver was unable to threaten Verstappen for a moment and eventually crossed the finish line more than 16 seconds later. In the standings for the world title, Verstappen again ran seven points clear of Hamilton who now has to make up a 19-point deficit over the next four races.

A decisive moment in the championship

The most important moment of the race was the start, Button analysed. "It was a brave move to go round the outside of Bottas and Hamilton. He braked at exactly the right moment. He also had the guts to turn in without touching anyone. Verstappen gave Hamilton plenty of room to move. Button, therefore, calls it a great action of the Dutchman. "This could be a decisive moment in the championship," he said.
