Vettel: 'Why are we talking about things that should be obvious?'

Sebastian Vettel is not only busy building his future at Aston Martin, but the German driver is also busy dealing with social issues such as climate change. In an interview with The New York Times Vettel expresses his frustration, because according to him, Formula 1 is not doing enough.

Vettel is increasingly concerned with the climate and the consequences global warming will have for humans and animals. In Austria, he built a bee hotel and before the Italian Grand Prix, he visited Iceland to see a factory that captures carbon dioxide. The Aston Martin driver's actions show that he thinks these issues are very important.

"On the environmental front, we’ve faced big challenges in the past, with pandemics and wars. But what we’re facing for the future going forward is far bigger and more important for us to understand given the size and urgency of the problem. In terms of human rights, I don’t understand why it’s still such a big deal. Why are we talking about things that should just be clear to us?", said the 34-year-old driver.

Lots of litter after the races

After the Grand Prix in Silverstone, there was a lot of talk about Vettel, because he helped volunteers to collect waste. He thinks Formula 1 should tell fans more about how to handle waste responsibly. "If you look at the bigger picture, there’s a certain responsibility we have as Formula 1 when we go to different places in the world and we set up these huge events which bring massive excitement. We cannot just go there, do our show, and then leave everything else behind."
