The long awaited move of George Russell to Mercedes finally came through this week. Russell will be Lewis Hamilton's teammate next year, when many things are going to change in F1.

The seven-time world champion was of course also asked for his opinion during the press conference. He said, quoted by Formula1.co.ukThat they have known each other for a long time and that it is nice that they will be racing in the same team.

"It's been a great journey. We've also become friends during that time. We've taken four constructors' titles and of course we want to win another one. I think it's exciting for him that he's starting a new adventure."

Russell part of group of talented young drivers

By that Hamilton means Max Verstappen, Charles Leclerc, Pierre Gasly but also George Russell. Hamilton is therefore looking forward to fresh blood in Mercedes' ranks.

"George is obviously part of that group of young, talented drivers. It's good to have fresh blood in the team. It gives the whole team energy. He is a talented and eager youngster and will push the team further forward."

When asked if he had much influence on the decision of Toto Wolff and others, the Briton was short but sweet. "I have given positive feedback to both George and Valtteri. At the end of the day, it's Toto's decision and the board's decision. Valtteri has been very positive about his new adventure, which is cool to see, and there is a lot of positivity around George coming as well."

So where Russell will drive the black car next year, Valtteri Bottas will be seen in the Alfa Romeo colours from next year.
