It was a historic Sunday at Zandvoort. Finally, there was a Dutch Grand Prix again, and how! The race itself did not make much of an impression, but the atmosphere and the performance of Max Verstappen did. A summary of a beautiful Sunday.

Verstappen wins Dutch Grand Prix

For the first time in more than 30 years there was a Dutch Grand Prix, and for this race to be won by a Dutchman is extra special. Verstappen took pole on Saturday and continued this line during the race on Sunday. He drove in the lead and didn't give the victory away. Even against two Mercedes cars, the Dutchman was too fast.

Verstappen back on top of the championship

Because that is the result of the victory of the Dutchman. Lewis Hamilton had to make do with second place and the fastest lap, which means Verstappen now leads the championship by three points.

Fans and organisation make impression

Everyone was full of praise. The drivers, the team bosses, analysts and so on. The Netherlands as a whole impressed the world on Sunday. Wolff even went as far as to say that Zandvoort set a new benchmark for other circuits to work towards. That says a lot.

Hamilton received respectfully

Talking about the fans: beforehand many people feared that Hamilton would be received in a not so respectful way in the lion's den: Zandvoort. Nothing turned out to be less true. During his retirement in the second free practice, there were some cheers, but they did not go much further than that. He was applauded after qualifying and the race and was also applauded when he was called onto the podium. To the delight of Toto Wolff and Helmut Marko.

Perez provides spectacle

The race itself was not the most entertaining race to watch, especially in terms of spectacle. Sergio Perez had to start last in the race due to a bad qualifying session and an engine change but managed to limit the damage by finishing eighth. The Mexican was one of the few drivers to overtake in the race, with the one over Lando Norris the most spectacular.
