One day before the official start at Zandvoort in the Netherlands, the FIA, the regulatory body of Formula 1, has officially confirmed that it will not enforce track limits. Drivers are allowed to run out wide as long as the car is brought back onto the track safely.

"If a driver overshoots the corner at Turn 1 there is a small road along the front of the tyre barrier which leads back on to the track at the exit of Turn 1, please ensure that your drivers use this when necessary," the race directors notes state.

The same applies to corners eight and eleven, if a driver goes off track here he will not be penalised if he re-enters the track in a correct manner. In some other corners of the circuit in the dunes, track limits are limited since these corners are framed by a cement wall.

The solution?

This puts Circuit Zandvoort in a unique situation. It remains to be seen whether this decision by the FIA is the solution to the sometimes controversial enforcement of track limits this season, something that caused a lot of fuss at the beginning of 2021.
