Marko: 'Normally rain is good, but you don't necessarily want that at Spa'

Helmut Marko has once again outlined the financial blow that Red Bull Racing have had to endure from the past two Grands Prix. The 78-year old from Graz doesn't see this as the biggest problem though, as the impending grid penalty could play a major role in the remainder of the World Championship.

"The damage is about two and a half million euros", Marko said in conversation with Kronen Zeitung. Converted to euros, the budget cap this season is just under 125 million euros. It's no secret that Red Bull Racing's advisor would like to see Mercedes pay for this, but the Austrian has bigger concerns than that. "Much worse is that we can't manage with three engines, we have to put in a fourth," he said.

The damage to the engines of Verstappen (Silverstone) and Perez (Hungary) is so extensive that a new power unit will have to be installed. That means a hefty grid penalty, but it is still unclear where Red Bull intends to take the grid penalty. It could be next weekend at Spa-Francorchamps, but because rain is predicted this doesn't seem the most ideal moment.

No grid penalty Red Bull at Spa?

"Normally rain is good, but as a driver you don't necessarily want that at Spa, it brings risks," according to Marko. Besides, it's something of a home race for Verstappen. The Milton Keynes-based formation is also going for the win alone."A win is what we are going for. We're behind in the points, so there's nothing to do but attack!"
