Ferrari seem to have taken a serious step forward in the summer break. The Italian formation will come to Monza with an upgrade to its engine, which has reportedly enabled it to find around ten extra horsepower. That writes La Gazzetta dello Sport Tuesday.

Ferrari wants to make steps

According to Italy's biggest sports newspaper, the extra engine power is due to Shell's new fuel and lubricants. There are also plans to optimise the ERS system, which will allow Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz to use more energy each lap and therefore go faster around the track.

During the races at Spa-Francorchamps and Zandvoort, this upgrade will not yet be available for Ferrari. Between these two GP's a small improvement in aerodynamics is expected. In any case, the floor introduced at Silverstone seems to work well. The SF21 has become a lot more stable and with all these gains the team hopes to move up on the grid. Furthermore, no major upgrades are planned, because like many other teams Ferrari is aiming for 2022.

Catching up with Mercedes and Red Bull Racing seems to be a difficult task, but third place in the Constructors' Championship is still achievable. Together with McLaren, the team from Maranello is in third place with 163 points.
