Masi does not rule out regulation changes: 'Something unexpected may occur'

The next Grand Prix weekend on the calendar is set to take place at Silverstone. During that same weekend the sprint race format will be introduced for the first time. It remains to be seen whether this will be an asset to Formula 1, but race director Michael Masi says that possible changes to the regulations will not be ruled out.

Masi does not rule out changes to sprint race regulations

The regulations already had to be substantially modified to allow for the sprint race format, but Masi says to count on further changes in case unexpected issues arise. "Something may occur that nobody has thought about," Masi said in conversation with Autosport.com. "After the first event, we're going to look at what works and what doesn't, and what areas can be improved on."

"To be honest, it's all new for everybody in Formula 1," he continued. "The regulations are formed according to a specific format, around a Grand Prix without a sprint qualifying. So everyone is open about it and says we all have to work together and see what happens."

The regulations have been looked at in detail by the FIA, together with sporting directors from all the teams. There is a chance that there will still be grey areas and that teams will take advantage of them, but Masi hopes that all teams will work together to avoid such situations.
