In 2025 the new engine regulations for Formula 1 will come into force. From that year Red Bull will also start developing their own engines. Red Bull team boss Christian Horner wants the new engines to be loud and entertaining for the fans.

Golden opportunity for Formula 1

Horner thinks Formula 1 has a golden opportunity with the introduction of the new engines. According to him, the current engines are too expensive and complicated and also make too little noise. The fans have long complained about the lack of sound from the screaming V10 and V8 engines.

"We see that the cost of the current engine is extremely prohibitive," Horner told Motorsport.com. "That wasn't considered when this engine was conceived and I think there is a fantastic opportunity for what might become the engine for the next ten years. Now we can do it differently."

Just as good to Formula E

Horner especially thinks that emotion should return to Formula 1 with the sound of the engines. "Of course it also has to be sustainable, but I think it still has to be entertaining. Otherwise, we might as well start doing Formula E. Hopefully together we can come up with something for 2025."

In Austria, all the current manufacturers and Audi and Porsche attended a meeting for the new engines. Horner is positive about it. "I think it was a constructive dialogue. It's important that we find the right solution, both in terms of cost and product, for the future of Formula One. So I think all the right stakeholders are involved in that discussion and it's important to work collectively for the benefit of the sport."
