This season has already seen a lot of talk about track limits, the relationship between the FIA and the teams. These include the Flexi-wing and the pre-race testing that is now carried out. The next change is coming: the pit stops. Ferrari thinks that there needs to be more communication between the FIA and the teams when these kinds of changes are being considered by the FIA.

This is what Laurent Mekies, sporting director at Ferrari, says to Motorsport-total.com. "Without going into the circumstances of the current Technical Directive now: it would probably be better if in the future we all sat around the table and discussed such issues together with the FIA, rather than being surprised by a Technical Directive in the middle of the season."

No more surprises from the FIA

The rules regarding pit stops in the middle of the season are going to change. Something Mekies is not a big fan of. He says it is good that the FIA is thinking about changes and the safety of the drivers and the team, but: "It would be nice if we could discuss this in advance and find out what it is about."

Mekies says that would allow teams to better anticipate what's to come, rather than suddenly hearing that the rules around pit stops are going to change now. This would also allow teams to better (and thus safer) implement these changes.
