From the Hungarian Grand Prix on there will be new rules regarding the pit stops. An action of a mechanic has to last at least 0,15 seconds. Especially Red Bull Racing seems to suffer from this.

Record holder Red Bull

Red Bull set the fastest pit stop in fifteen of the seventeen Grands Prix in 2020. But according to some teams the stops are too fast and the speed makes it too dangerous. Advisor Helmut Marko is not happy with the new rules which come into effect in a few Grands Prix.

"Red Bull Racing holds the record for the fastest stops in F1 and the record for the most top stops," Marko told the Kronen Zeitung. The current record for pit stops was set back in 2019, a stop by Max Verstappen lasted just 1.82 seconds that year.

Fast pit stops possibly too dangerous

"Now teams that don't do this claim it's dangerous. You want there to be a reaction time of at least two tenths of a second between the completed stop and the release of the car. The proposals for this are complicated, half-baked and unnecessary," Marko revealed.

According to Marko, there is no need for new regulations on pit stops. "Fast pit stops are part of the sport and the show." The advantage that Red Bull grabs during a pit stop comes from training hard says Marko.
