New conspiracy theory about Mercedes: 'Update only used during film day'

Mercedes had many problems during the winter test in Bahrain. The gearbox stopped working, the car seemed hardly controllable and above all the car was not fast. According to Craig Scarborough it could be possible that Mercedes has withheld parts.

Mercedes has been the dominant force in Formula 1 for the last seven years, so it was a surprise to many that they didn't come out on top in the 2021 winter test. While it is clear to most teams what the tokens for this season have been spent on, this might be Mercedes' trick.

While many people think Mercedes introduced a new gearbox for 2021 and used the tokens for that, Scarborough doesn't want to go along with that. ''I don't think they have done that. In fact, Mercedes has said that we can see what they spent the tokens on,'' the Tech expert says on Peter Windsor's YouTube channel.

''One of those conspiracy theories is also that Mercedes will only come up with the update on movie day. I expect them to come up with something like the nose. The gearbox is also possible, but then they had the new gearbox in the old casing. That then also explains the reliability issues and the problems with the rear of the car. If they bring a new rear suspension and gearbox casing to the race, that could fix those problems.''

For this reason, then, Scarborough has a message for fans. ''It's interesting to follow this, but you don't do well to write off Mercedes at this stage. At least it does give us hope that at the start of the season it might be exciting for the race win,'' Scarborough concludes.
