Grosjean explains problem of F1: 'Then Hamilton would be hopeless too'

Romain Grosjean announced on Wednesday that he will race in the IndyCar championship in 2021. He says goodbye to Formula 1, but not to racing for a long time.

Romain Grosjean was told by Günther Steiner that he and Kevin Magnussen were no longer needed at Haas. The American stable is taking a new path with young talent and hopefully some extra money, so Grosjean had to look for something new. He found the new challenge in America, where he hopes to compete for prizes again.

''I know my Formula 1 career is over now, but I want to continue racing. If you want to win in Formula 1, you need a great car. You have twenty drivers at the very highest level. There may be small differences, but they are minimal,'' Grosjean pinpointed the problem with F1 according to Speedweek.com.

''If drivers like Charles Leclerc, Max Verstappen or George Russell had the best equipment, they would make Hamilton's life very hard. It's the same the other way round. Put Hamilton in a Haas and he has no chance. The ideal example of this was Russell in the Mercedes.''

In that respect, Grosjean is very happy that Sergio Perez is now getting his chance at the top at Red Bull Racing. ''I am very happy for him and convinced that he will show great things. He drove for McLaren a few years back, but now he has much more experience and I believe he will not let this opportunity slip away,'' the Frenchman concludes.
