In the documentary series Whatever it Takes, it became clear once more that Jos Verstappen played an important role in the upbringing of Max Verstappen. That role is now partly taken over by Helmut Marko.

Verstappen speaks his father still

Verstappen has been interested in motorsport since childhood and with father Jos that is not so strange. In the series Whatever it Takes it emerged that Jos left him behind at a petrol station.

Jos is much less visible nowadays, but that doesn't mean that Max doesn't talk to him anymore. "I still talk to him every day during a race weekend. With Whatsapp, I can explain a lot of things to him, but that's also so that he has that information at home," said Max about his father.

Marko second father to Max

When it comes to Jos' hard method, we are also asked whether this is comparable to Marko's method. "Very hard, but no, he is much better off with us. Max has become much better and is no longer so impatient," said Marko on ServusTV. Verstappen is also very happy with the cooperation.

"We are working with the whole team to compete for the world title next year. I hope we have a chance next year. I get along very well with Helmut. He is always very honest and perhaps feels a bit like a second father. I first had that experience with my father, but since I have been in Formula 1 my father has disappeared more into the background and Helmut has taken on that role," concluded Verstappen.
