At the FIA award ceremony, at which all the champions of that year receive their trophies, there was also a special prize on behalf of the President, Jean Todt. Lewis Hamilton and Michael Schumacher both received this recognition, with Michael Schumacher's wife, Corinna Schumacher, attending the award ceremony to receive the prize.

Michael Schumacher's wife does not often come out in public, let alone on television. However, this opportunity was a good reason for the Schumacher family to speak to the media. "He loved racing so much. Michael has always had a big heart for people who need something," she explains at the award ceremony.

Hamilton equal to Schumacher

Lewis Hamilton also received this special award from Todt. He equalled Schumacher's record this year. "I really didn't expect to achieve that. It is a huge privilege to be in Formula 1. You hope you perform well every week. I am enormously grateful for the championships I have. I really couldn't do it without the great team that has always been behind me."

"I have always been alone in this sport. I have been in F1 for the last 14 years and little has changed around diversity. When I ask people why the sport is not diverse, they don't know the answer to that question," Hamilton explains. Hamilton's role in society has also earned him a lot of prestige and that's another reason why he has received this award.

Marshals around crash Grosjean are also rewarded

Todt also gave away a third FIA President Award at the ceremony. The marshals of the Bahrain International Circuit also received an award for their work around the crash of Romain Grosjean during the opening round of the Bahrain Grand Prix. The driver of the medical car, Alan van der Merwe and doctor Ian Roberts also received this award.
