Teams get another chance to test new Pirelli tyre

During the practice prior to the Grand Prix at Portimao, all teams were able to drive a number of laps with different prototypes of tyres. The teams will drive with one of these tyres next year and Pirelli will give the teams another chance to test the tyres to aid with the decision.

Choosing a new tire is of course easier said than done and Pirelli, therefore, want to test as much as possible. Sometime this year, the teams will drive another free practice session with a prototype tyre for 2021.

According to Pirelli boss Mario Isola, following the test results in Portimao, they have chosen a set that they want to test further. "We were able to test the new prototypes in Portimao and analyze the test results, which are excellent, despite the difficult conditions on the new circuit."

Isola continued: "We have found a prototype which we believe is an improvement on the current specification. All the prototypes we brought to Portimao were already better, but what we missed was the handling and performance of the tires on the track," Isola said to Motorsport.com. In the past, the teams were not given the opportunity to test the different prototypes.
