Albon sees opportunities for F1: "Then we'll keep that engagement in place"

Until the coronavirus outbreak, it was virtually impossible for fans to contact their Formula 1 heroes. Because many drivers from the king's class of motor racing are sim racing and also stream this via platforms like Twitch, this has become a lot easier. According to Alexander Albon, this is a very positive development that can be maintained in the future.

"I think already what I've realised is that definitely [there is] this feeling that the fans have been able to really connect to the driver," Albon announced via a video connection at the FIA eConference 2020. The British Thai knows that in Formula 1 it is difficult for the spectators to 'get to know' a driver. "That feeling of being at home, speaking to your audience and getting that interaction is something really special."

Max Verstappen's team mate hopes that the closer contact of the past few months is something that can be continued. "I don't see why that won't carry on through to the real life really. It's just going to continue I think", Albon expects. "It's obviously going to be very busy now but once the season does stop when we get into the Christmas, New Year period, we're all going to be jumping back on and kind of keeping that engagement going.”

Albon sees opportunities

The 24 year old driver of Red Bull Racing participated in the official simraces of Formula 1 and he liked it very much. “I've really enjoyed it. It's been very fun, very competitive. I think putting drivers in environments where we're going to be racing against each other is always going to make us ultra keen to beat one another", said Albon. "I've kind of been opened up to this whole new world that I've never really delved in before, and I think it's a really exciting opportunity for us.”
