Not only for the F1 drivers, the current period is a very difficult one. Also for Safety car-driver Bernd Maylander the past few months have not been easy. The driver who normally can be found at the front of the F1 field every weekend is now forced to sit at home because of the cancellation or postponement of the first series of Grands Prix in 2020.

In an interview with Auto, Motor und Sport Maylander tells about the past period. "I haven't been able to do anything, I think I've really set new records on the screen time of my phone. I've never had to charge it so often before". The German can't wait to get back in the Safety Car. "I'd like to know when it starts again. My sporting hope lies in Austria."

Busy when it starts again

If the season can then begin in Austria, it is immediately a busy weekend for Maylander. "We need to see what happens to Formula 2, Formula 3 and the Porsche Supercup. I am optimistic that we can organise it all. The F1 is so professional, otherwise it wouldn't be F1. Only the official starting signal is missing."

Also for the German it will be different in Austria when there can be no fans at the races. "I think most have already resigned themselves to the fact that there will be races without spectators this year. You can already see it in football". Maylander is also curious what the paddock will look like. "I can imagine it's still pretty funny. We might have a chance to go to the Paddock Club", Maylander closes.
