According to La Gazetta dello Sport, Sebastian Vettel had refused a first contract offer from Ferrari, but the team wouldn't stop there. According to new sources, Vettel got another offer from the Italian team.

The hunt for the seat

Vettel's contract expires at the end of 2020, making it one of the most interesting seats available for 2021. Daniel Ricciardo and Carlos Sainz seem to be interested in the Germans seat. But after five years of faithful service, Vettel is not simply thrown out the door.

However, while the first deal yielded more than thirty million a year, Vettel will have to hand in a lot of his salary. Charles Leclerc would earn twelve million a year with his new contract, and according to La Gazetta dello Sport, Vettel won't get a penny more, which means the two are on equal level from the teams perspective.

What does Vettel do?

That's not as crazy as it seems. Leclerc won more races in 2019, was on pole more often and beat the four-time world champion in the qualifying game and important, also in points. The Monegask signed a new long-term contract and seems to be the leader for the future, while Vettel has to fight for his place.

This was evident from the first offer, as Vettel is said to have had a lower salary, but also a deal for just one season. However, the German would like to sign for more seasons, and Ferrari wants to do so too. Indeed, according to F1-insider.com, Vettel has had a new offer from Ferrari, with this time more years in the contract.

However, the question now is whether Vettel will sign for the reduced salary. Vettel, with his four world titles and well-known name, is of course quite true, but he can't afford much. Ricciardo would aim for a seat at thetop team at the moment and Sainz already shown his interested by throwing a rumor in the world that linked him to the Italian team. So Vettel will have to make a quick choice before Ferrari changes their mind.
